Dungeons & Dragons in Frederick
By Staff – August 6, 2018
If you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s then you probably remember nerdy kids in your high school gathering around handfuls of weird dice and talking about “magic missiles”. Though D&D had a pretty bad reputation for a long time (particularly in the 80’s) it has come back around and is now hugely popular with nerds and cool kids. We are, of course, referring to ourselves.
Now, you may be wondering how to get involved with D&D in Frederick, and thankfully there are plenty of ways for you to do so. Let’s take a look!
Are you looking to dive in head first? Why waste time dipping your toes in the water. We understand, and Adventure Away is for you. Adventure Away is a D&D B&B. That’s right. It’s a bed and breakfast where you can relax and play D&D all weekend long.
Whether you’re a brand new player, or you’ve taken down your fair share of Beholders, this weekend is going to be for you. You can bring your own character, or meet with their on-staff expert DM can help you build one while also giving you a primer on everything you need to know to roleplay with the best of ’em.
Rooms are pretty pricey, but honestly, it’s a no-brainer for tabletop enthusiasts. We’re going to start saving our gold now.
Join a Meet-Up
Dungeons and Dragons requires other people to play; that’s one of the best and worst things about it. If you’re having a hard time finding a party to play with, then check out Meet-Up. It’s a helpful resource that you can use to find other people who are playing D&D in your area.
Head to Your Local Comic Shop
Frederick is home to several awesome comic book shops that hold weekly meetings to play tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and more. Yes, there are more. So many more.
Beyond Comics doesn’t have any games running at the moment, but keep checking back! You never known when a new game will pop up.
Brainstorm Comics & Gaming is starting a beginner game on August 17th, so grab your level 1 friends and grab a seat! They have other game nights as well, so there may be something for you to enjoy even if you don’t want to live in fear of natural 1’s.
Oh Crit!, the D&D Improv Show
Oh Crit! is here to show you that geeks can be funny too. They will be performing at Sky Stage on Friday, August 31st after having to reschedule due to thunderstorms. You can learn more about the party here.
The show itself is made up of a few improv performers, a Dungeon Master, and participation from the audience. The performers receive a race, a class, and a curse from the audience. Hilarity then ensues. May all your rolls be natural 20’s, my friends.
