Role-playing Retreat Opens in Frederick

One hour north of Washington DC, is Frederick, Maryland where a unique type of “bed and breakfast” is launching. Adventure Away is the new “D&D B&B”. Tabletop gamers can book their dream vacation with a weekend retreat in a relaxing bed and breakfast atmosphere. Accommodations are considered so guests can focus on the main attraction: an immersive tabletop roleplaying game.

This gaming retreat treats attendees to up-to 12 hours of gaming in the world of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. You develop your character before arrival for the weekend away, or speak to Adventure Away’s DM to tailor a character that works for you. Guests are even encouraged to wear costumes. Plus, at this retreat, all the food is included.

“We came up with the idea while staying at a Bed and Breakfast in wine country Virginia. We played a lot of games of Magic: The Gathering and dreamed up a place where people could stay overnight and experience a game of Dungeons and Dragons like no other.” says Co-Founder, Apple Reese.

The founders see it not only a way for people to comfortably try out tabletop roleplaying, but for existing, dedicated gaming groups to explore and deepen their passion for the hobby. “People have already been doing this. A group of adventurers rent a little cabin in the woods for a weekend and run a whole module. But maybe the regular Game Master doesn’t get to play and wants a break. We take a lot of headache out of the process, so people can just play.“ says Co-Founder, Wayne Denier II.

Adventure Away offers weekend packages for individuals and couples throughout the year. And with weekend packages starting at $350 per person for lodging, food, and roleplaying, it’s a mini vacation that doesn’t break the bank. They also offer party packages for your corporate retreats, bachelor parties, spring breaks, birthday parties, or graduation gifts. Celebrate your birthday playing the hero (or villain) with your closest friends!

  1. This is awesome! I can’t believe I have never heard of something similar to this, I’ve heard of murder mystery get aways, or escape the room puzzles, but a D&D B&B? If I ever go through D.C. again, I am definitely booking a weekend in advance!
